MineScape 2023's latest feature comes with a new Despike feature. This functionality automatically detects and removes triangular protusions within a mesh. Unwanted triangles are a common occurence in mesh creation, often stemming from boolean operations.

The Despike feature can be accessed in the CAD App within the Mesh Tab. The Despike Option within the Surface Mesh Group should be present.

Why do we need Mesh Despike?

  • To save time and productivity, especially if there are numerous triangles spread all over the place within a mesh

  • Not only does this functionality help to refine meshes, but it also ensures correct terrain representations

  • This functionality will generate a new mesh, allowing users to preserve the original mesh

Example

Once the mesh with triangualr protrusions is loaded in the CAD window, simply click the Despike Button to display a new form.

Users only need to enter a name for the output mesh. Every unwanted triangle will be removed.

The image below shows a comparison of a mesh that has been refined using Despike. The total traingles that are removed can be seen in the Feedback Dock.

To further streamline users’ workflow, the Just In-time DTM (in the Open Cut App) and Update DTM (in the CAD App) functions also automatically detect and remove triangles, eliminating the need to run the Despike feature manually.
